Land Rover Smartphone

The market for smartphones is a difficult one. Proven by Blackberry giving up manufacturing and licensing its brand to TCL.

After many other brands, British automotive brand Jaguar Land Rover, currently owned by Tata Motors, launches smartphones and accessories in 2017 via license.

The licensee is Bullitt Group. Bullitt Group has been working with various brands before, among them  CAT, Caterpillar, and JCB.

Caterpillar Smartphone

We’ve said it before, cellphones are the new sunglasses. Meaning, as an image product, cellphones have replaced shades at the top.

As a result of that trend, many brands – mostly from luxury and fashion – have flocked to license cellphones or at the higher end smartphones.

Now another brand, an early adopter of brand licensing, is introducing a smartphone, Caterpillar. Caterpillar successfully licensed for example shoes and watches before.

Matching the brand, the CAT cellphone is shock resistant and protected against dust and water.

The product was introduced at Cebit in Hannover, Germany.

Second License for Smartphone by Porsche Design

According to Zawya.com, Porsche Design and RIM will launch a new Porsche Design P’9981 Smartphone in the United Arab Emirates.

The customized Porsche Design P’9981 comes with an exclusive Porsche Design UI and a bespoke Wikitude World Browser augmented reality app experience.

The Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry will be available at all Porsche Design stores in the United Arab Emirates, as well as authorized retailers.

For Porsche Design this is somewhat cannibalizing, since it already has a cellphone under license with Sagem.

Jil Sander joins luxury brands in cellphone license

Like other luxury brands before, Jil Sander signed a brand license for cellphones.

The licensee is LG Electronics, which hasn’t been part of the fashion cellphone market yet.

The Jil Sander smartphone comes with a 3.8 touchscreen, a 5 MP camera with auto focus and LED flash, HD video, WiFi, and a digital compass.

It has an app to connect to Jill Sander social media platforms. The app also serves as an online store navigator and a store locator” that, will show the nearest Jill Sander store.

The phone is available in stores and online.

It retails for $404.00.
