A new luxury group is in the making.
Authentic Brands Group, known so far mostly for its Marilyn Monroe business, has bought the brands Judith Leiber, Adrienne Vittadini and Taryn Rose reports WWD.
Through its shareholder Leonard, Green & Partners, Autentic Brands Group is connected to luxury retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Tourneau.
In Europe, two newer groups are competing with the established LVMH, Richemont, and PPR in the luxury arena: Labelux Group and Ridigier & Partners.
Yet brand groups – even in luxury – are no certain way to success.
This was proven by Egana Group out of Hong Kong. Beginning in the 90s it built a large portfolio of owned and licensed brands. It failed in 2008 and was rescued by retailer Lifestyle International Holdings.
