Sharp licenses TVs too

Like many electronics manufacturers before, Sharp is turning to a licensing model.

As reported, it sold its Mexico television factory to Chinese electronics manufacturer Hisense for $23.7 million. Hisense now holds a license to use the Sharp brand name in North and South America, except Brazil.

Prior, Sharp sold its audio and video business in Europe to Universal Media Corporation of Slovakia, which included the manufacturing base in Poland for LCD televisions.

And Turkish company Vestel has received a license to use the Sharp brand to make and sell appliances in Europe.
